Early Roots
In 1731, the land at 310 and 316 Rue Chartres began as a quiet garden tended by Ursuline nuns. By the 1860s, the growing city brought industrial development, and both buildings were rebuilt in the classic 3ā4 story style of the time. A clothing factory producing voluminous blouses and long skirts operated on-siteāan iconic fashion of the era.
Set along historic Chartres Street near Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral, the buildings stood at the heart of a district shaped by merchants, history, and culture. Today, 310 Rue Chartres still reflects that 19th-century foundation

FIRE, FALLOUT, AND TRANSITION
In 1904, tragedy struck when a fire swept through Rue Chartres, damaging the clothing factory at 310. The following decades brought drastic changes. By the 1930s, the once-thriving area became a rougher corner of the French Quarter, housing brothels, bars, and tenement homes. The decline continued into the 1960s, when 316 Rue Chartres was bulldozed and converted into a parking lot. Amidst the urban challenges, 310 managed to remain standing, a lone witness to the ever-shifting spirit of New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS SPIRIT
Over 50 years ago the first Hotel de la Poste was opened as the newest of the historic French Quarter hotels. The original Hotel de la Poste first welcomed travelers in the 1970s; its name is a nod to the street posts where riders would hitch their horses that still line the streets. These welcome sites for weary travelers symbolize arrival, rest, and comfort. The property continued to operate as a refined yet welcoming outpost, where travelers pause, connect, and immerse themselves in the city's culture.
